Grass sprouts from a wrecked car, more than four months after the Fukushima nuclear incident. I like this photo because of the vibrant colourss, and the depth that can be seen because of the way the clouds are positioned. I also like the unnatural feel the crashed car gives it.

Blackrock College scrum-hald Conor Crowley releases the ball after a rick, during a Division 1A All-Ireland League rugby union match against Old Belvedere, in heavy rain on 5th February, at Anglesea Road, Old Belvedere's home stadium. I like this picture because of the purpley-blueish colours in it that contrast with the dark browns. I also like the way the action has been captured clearly, but there is also still evidence of movement by the blurred aspects, for example, near the ball.

This is a southern cassowary (Casuarius casuarius) feeding on the fruit of the blue quandong tree. The vibrant blues and the slight transparency of the beak make me like this photo. I also like the camera angle of having the berries slightly more prominent than the bird. I also like the blur of the crown of the bird because it gives the hint of movement, making it more realistic.

The chick has been fully fed, so the emperor penguin heads back to sea for more fish and krill. I like this one because the chick is in a good position where you can see its face, and it is framed and focused well in the blurred figure of the penguin. I like how the curve of the beak fits well over the curve of the chicks head.

An attack by unidentified masked assailants left bodies lying on the floor of a pool hall in Choloma, on the outskirts of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I like the way the photographer has framed it to only show a little bit of blood and bodies so that the image only hints at the gore that must be being concealed by the black framing.
